Bobby Genovese’s world famous Miss Canada IV will take center stage at Picton, Ontario’s Prince Edward Yacht Club on October 2 and 3, 2015 to commemorate the 65th anniversary of her historic 200 mph run at the World Water Speed record. Admission for the two-day event is $10.

“Who would have ever thought that Miss Canada IV would return to the waters of Prince Edward County 65 years after Harold and Lorna Wilsons’ attempt at the World Water Speed Record,” said her owner, BG Capital Group Chairman Bobby Genovese, of this inaugural event hosted by Thunder Events of Picton (TEP).

“Miss Canada IV was the first Canadian challenge to the supremacy of the United States on the world hydroplane stage,” said Genovese, who will be joined by members of the Wilson family returning to watch her fly down the bay. “She captured the imagination of the nation, and we are delighted that she will thrill audiences once again. She is a significant part of Canada’s boat racing history, which I am proud to bring back to Picton.”

Genovese is a devoted collector of vintage Canadian race boats, including Miss Canada III, and Canadiana Grand Prix. He also owns Rambler, a restored 70ft 1903 Polson Iron Works Yacht, Miss Miami V, and Pistoff, a 1960, 970-horsepower twin engine Vic Carpenter custom runabout.

“This gathering will be a great opportunity for visitors to see many of the race boat legends that competed in Picton,” said BG Vintage Racing Team Manager Jamie Smith, who heads Genovese’s BG Vintage Race Boat and Antique Boat Museum, which is expected to be completed next year.

The anniversary festivities will feature a static display of vintage hydroplanes and race boats including Miss Canada IV and give attendees the opportunity to meet the drivers and crews along with notable celebrities of current and past hydroplane racing fame.

TEP was established to promote boat racing, both vintage and professional, in Prince Edward County. Thunder on the Bay is made possible thanks to financial support from local businesses and individuals with the desire to bring race boat fans back to Prince Edward County. Net proceeds of this event will support local charities, the PEC Heritage Fund, and future events. Thunder Events is owned and operated by Larry Ritchie, Board Director of the Prince Edward County Chamber of Tourism and Commerce and owner of Picton Harbour Pontoon Tours.

Genovese cottage property features 50-foot high waterfall

Article by Dale Peacock / Photographs by Kelly Holinshead

Bobby Genovese’s magnificent Lake Rosseau cottage complements his gregarious personality. Indeed, it is one of the crown jewels of his BG Signature Properties collection. Genovese credits his beloved mother for his love of Muskoka and for much of his success. He so valued his mother’s opinion that he hardly made a decision in the early days without running it by her.

“Our mom had the rare gift of common sense,” he says. “All the boys were multi-millionaires in our 20s and we all called on her for advice. She just had a way of making sense out of chaos.” He adds sadly, “She died at just 63 and I miss her every day.”

This unlikely mama’s boy beams and asks rhetorically, “Don’t you think that mothers are just amazing?” He adds, “I am truly in awe of the job that mothers do.”

Genovese has more than 25 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions and operates BG Capital Group and BG Capital Management Corporation, both of which are based in Barbados with associate management offices in Nassau, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver.

In 2012, he developed and launched BG Signature Properties, a portfolio of 12 exclusive luxury retreats in the US, Canada, Europe, South America and Bahamas, including its flagship property, BG Equestrian Resort in Ocala, Florida.

It all began when Richard Branson hit Bobby Genovese over the head. Metaphorically, of course.

“I had all these incredible residences that I owned that I just don’t get to visit anymore,” says Genovese, chairman of BG Capital Group Limited, which in 2013 came out with the BG Signature Luxury Retreat Collection. “And having spent some time with Richard Branson, he sort of hit me over the head and said, ‘Well, why don’t you do what I do?’ And that’s how BG Signature came about.”

It works perfectly for Genovese, who just likes to show people a good time. An adventure enthusiast himself who finds his rush exploring different corners of the world (and anywhere that happens to have a polo field), the entrepreneur and business mogul has established his ideal hobby in BG Signature Collection.

“I really enjoy creating incredible experiences of holidays for people,” says Genovese, who’s talking from the BG Signature flagship location, an equestrian resort in Ocala, Fla. This particular property is a real-life fantasy for any active vacationer, located adjacent to the Florida Horse Park and backing onto the world-famous Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, a 177-kilometre-long trail that connects one side of the state to the other.

With the goal of adding one property to BG Signature’s roster every one to two years, Genovese couldn’t be happier with the way the company is already spreading his fun-loving energy to fellow travelers seeking unique destinations all over the world. When asked if he has his eye on any potentials right now, he says he does — and we’ll just have to wait and see what and where they turn out to be. For now, travelers can whet their adventure palates by perusing the BG Signature website, which gives a detailed overview of each property. From there, Genovese says, the renting process is simple as can be: just call or email BG Signature with the location you’ve fallen for, and shortly after your escape will be booked.

Bobby Genovese’s BG Signature Collection Expands Luxury Yacht Fleet with Launch of M/Y BG CHARADE

BG Capital Group announces the latest addition to his luxury yacht division with the launch of M/Y BG CHARADE

Adding to a global portfolio of BG Signature experiences and concierge travel offerings, BG Capital Group Chairman Bobby Genovese has announced the latest addition to his luxury yacht division with the launch of M/Y BG CHARADE, a classic 154-foot Feadship following a complete interior and exterior refit.

The new fully customized motor yacht boasts a modern, stylish interior with six spacious staterooms accommodating 12 guests for overnight trips. Among the changes is a more streamlined, ergonomic layout throughout, a new VIP suite on the main deck as a sixth stateroom, a new large wine display in the salon, state-of-the-art electronics and a spectacular outdoor aft deck theatre suited for al fresco entertaining and lounging.

“BG CHARADE was world renown when built in 1990 as the first Feadship to have a wheel-less wheelhouse,” said Genovese who fell in love with the boat when owned by Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen.

“Paul took her up the Amazon River and around the world twice, where she enjoyed a global roster of guests who undoubtedly shared my fascination and awe. She’s an amazing and storied work of art with a pedigree as unique as her lines.” And so, when the opportunity to purchase CHARADE decades later from then-owner British entrepreneur Joe Lewis, Genovese knew that life had come full circle and the yacht he had admired so was to be his destiny.

M/Y BG CHARADE joins an impressive suite of yachts in the BG charter collection that also includes M/Y BG Jr., a state-of-the-art 78-ft Lazzara LSX and M/Y BG3, a 2009 74-Sunseeker Predator.

ShowBoats: On Board with Bobby Genovese

We are excited to share the June 2015 issue of ShowBoats International Magazine featuring Bobby Genovese and the BG Yacht Collection by Marilyn Mower.

On Board with Bobby Genovese

Bobby Genovese made his fortune in the same way he has approached yachting: acquiring companies and yachts in rapid succession. Here, he shares his ventures into the business of fun with Marilyn Mower.

“WHO HAS MORE FUN THAN US?” If you watch Bobby Genovese race his kids up a 55-foot natural granite rock climbing wall at his summer house in Canada, charge along on a polo pony, blast out of his Lake Rosseau boathouse in one of his vintage speedboats or Jet Ski around one of his charter yachts, you quickly understand the question is rhetorical. His face has two speeds: grin and bigger grin.

I first heard about Genovese in connection with a 154-foot Feadship he’s refitting, Charade, thinking it might be a good story for Boat International Media’s Refit annual. Since Charade was in full “Frankenboat” stage at Derecktor shipyard, his PA suggested meeting on one of his other boats in Miami Beach or at his polo and equestrian club in Vero Beach, Florida. Serial boat owners, I’ve known aplenty; polo ponies added a new twist.

Screenshot_050815_022401_PMGenovese is a Canadian entrepreneur with an improbable success story that sounds like a TV script; oh wait, his life was bundled into a script, eight episodes to be exact of a program called “Bobby G: Adventure Capitalist” that aired in 2008 and followed him and his CEO Marco Markin as they bought, built and sold companies.

Genovese is chairman of BG Capital Group and BG Capital Management Corp., both based in Barbados, BG Capital Investment Trust and now BG Signature Resorts.

Tall, tan and fit-looking under a shock of sandy hair, his style is friendly, folksy, self-effacing and yet totally confident and prepared for anything. He has a knack for establishing working assets, and the harder they work the better. We were sitting on one of them, a Lazzara 78 LSX sport yacht that chartered 170 days last year in Florida and The Bahamas. Our backdrop was another one of his yachts in the BG Signature Luxury Yacht Collection, a Sunseeker Predator 75 he’d added to the portfolio in December 2014.
